Playing the quest requires the Kellar's Keep and the Return of the Witch Lord extensions in addition to the HeroQuest board game as it utilizes components from both of them (well, mostly the extra rocks and pits).

The quest is intended for a full group of four low to mid level characters, although it might be a bit too difficult with low level characters if played by beginners.
